about Richard Corey...

Richard Corey is an award-winning, published writer/poet who has gained some Internet notoriety for his hip-hop styled poetry that he performs live in Washington, D.C. Currently, Richard Corey pieces are seen, discussed and enjoyed on many English-speaking and on several international Web sites. In 2000, he was awarded the Morgan State University, “Creative Writing Award.”

As a Washington, D.C., metropolitan area journalist, Richard Corey began working as a reporter for the Prince George’s County Journal in the Summer of 2000. Later that year, he was hired as a managing editor for Thompson Publishing Group, heading several of its law publictions.

It was around this time that he, while living in D.C., began to immerse himself in Hip Hop culture. Corey dabbled in emceeing and graffiti before settling on a combination of the two, a unique style of “visual poetry” that he and a few friends called “scrypt.” The promotion of this form of poetry led Corey and several others, to create the Hip Hop Web site, projectrhyme.com.

Recently, Richard Corey has acted as the primary editor for Sons Of Jacob Publishing LLC. And in 2005, he wrote the foreword for the company’s first publication, DaRon Clark’s “In These Written Words.” The collection of poems can be purchased from sonsofjacob.org.

Richard Corey is currently compiling work for his upcoming project.
